Oprkanj Street is located in the central part of the Old Town, in the vicinity of Baščaršija Square, and joins Bravadžiluk St. and Telali St. This street became part of the Čaršija in the 16th century.
An oprkanj is a type of covered street bazaar, so at one time this street or part of it was probably covered. The name Oprkanj Street was used until 1921, when it was changed to honor Danilo Ilić, who was born and raised on this street and later became a member of Mlada Bosna (Young Bosnia). From 1941 until 1945 it was again called Oprkanj and then changed back to Danila Ilića Street in 1945. The original name, Oprkanj, was restored in 1993.
