Prote Bakovića Street is located in the central part of the Old Town, in the vicinity of Baščaršija Square.
This street dates back to the Ottoman period. Up until 1913 it had formed a cul-de-sac on what is now Mula Mustafa Bašeskija Street. After access was opened onto Sarači Street, it was named Protina (archpriest’s) Street after the prominent archpriest from Sarajevo, Stevan Baković, who lived on this street. The name Prote Bakovića has been in use since 1931.
