Brodac Street is located in the central part of the Old Town and runs along the northwestern side of Vijećnica (City Hall).
It was laid out on what was once a historic site. It was here that Isa Bey Ishaković had built a tekke (dervish lodge) a year or two before 1462, laying the foundations for Sarajevo’s urban development. When it finally received the status of a street in 1910, it was known as Vijećnička Street, given its proximity to Sarajevo's Vijećnica. In 1959 it was named after the social activist, Benjamin Finci. The name, Brodac Street, has been in use since 1993.
